Green Construction & Asphalt Paving from Reliable Contracting in Baltimore

Over the years, green construction practices in road building have gone from an idea often talked about, but rarely acted upon to the new, trendy paving technique to common practice in the paving industry. And today, hot-in-place pavement recycling (HIR) and cold-in-place pavement recycling (CIR) have taken the concept of green construction to the next level.

These practices have been recognized as an environmentally sound road reconstruction application by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ Center for Environmental Excellence. HIR and CIR are also encouraged by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as part of its environmental stewardship policy.

“In-place recycling is another technology that we are promoting very heavily within federal highways in conjunction with our partner around the country, ARRA,” said Steve Mueller of the Federal Highway Administration Resource Center in Lakewood, Colorado. “There is cold-in-place recycling, and hot-in-place recycling, as well as full-depth recycling, so there is a lot more that we can do [to recycle building materials] with the material right on the road, instead of having to bring in new materials.

Benefits of Hot-in-Place Pavement Recycling (HIR) and Cold-in-Place Pavement Recycling (CIR)

  • Environmentally friendly paving technique
  • In-place recycling is encouraged in areas with air quality issues
  • These paving technologies are constantly improving
  • And so much more!
