3 Tips for Getting into Green Construction

It’s easy being green!

As new green technology develops and more and more individuals and companies demand greener practices, the green construction industry has increasingly become one of the hottest sectors to stake a claim in. If you offer or are able to implement green practices, then it’s important to make those assets known to the public. Here are a few ways that you can make yourself known in the green construction industry.

Specialize

Being really good at a single element of green construction is much more effective than being kind of good at a wide variety of things. This is because not only will you be able to hone in your strengths to be an expert at that single specialization, but you will also be able to develop a name for yourself in that niche. For example, we here at Reliable Contracting have spent years perfecting our environmentally-friendly stormwater management systems and have built a reputation by being the first Maryland-based commercial site contractor to install the Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance Design in 2008.

Get Involved

It’s not enough to simply offer environmentally-friendly products and services. You have to be on the green scene to know about the latest innovations and make connections through networking. Start attending green conferences and industry events. Additionally, you can join organizations, like the U.S. Green Building Council, and pursue certifications, such as the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification. Be sure to let people know if you earn any certifications or awards by sending out a newsletter or press release!

Green Your Own Business

What’s the point of offering green products and services if your business isn’t green itself? Like they say, if you’re going to talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. See if there are ways you can incorporate recycled items into your own building and whether you can use fuel-efficient or hybrid construction and transportation vehicles. Being more conscientious about how green your own company is is a great way to really be a part of the green industry.
