Reliable Hosts Course for Area Educators

At Reliable Contracting, we understand the need to prepare our children for life after high school and college. This is why we host an abundance of courses in order to educate our educators, if you will. Teachers are vehicles of learning for our children, and the better they are prepared to assist them in job preparation, the easier it will be for them to obtain the necessary skills and education to find a job in an industry that interests them.  One of our favorite annual events is the hosting the University of Maryland Eastern Shore continuing education class for educators, titled the “American Industry & Global Competition Course.”

On Monday, July 6, twelve teachers gathered in Reliable’s headquarters to learn more about the contracting and construction industry. These educators, who mostly teach at the middle and high school level, sat in on an hour long presentation about the company for the purpose of having any and all questions concerning the hiring demands of the industry. A great, open discussion took place about how they as educators can work in the classroom to prepare their students for what comes next in life.

Following the presentation, the teachers were able to get a little more hands-on, viewing the many mechanical components of Reliable’s asphalt plants and our aggregate washing facility via a guided bus tour. One of our general managers, Rob Scrivener, lent his expertise as the tour guide while the bus traveled throughout our Waugh Chapel Plant and Mining facility in Gambrills. A special thanks goes to Jim Wilson of Wilson’s Bus Service of Crownsville for donating and driving the bus for us!

Thank you to our twelve educators for your dedication to helping the area’s youth succeed. We agree that it’s important for students to know what options they have before they enter the working world, as well as knowing what skills are required for various positions they may be interested in, from positions like skilled laborers to project managers and estimators at Reliable Contracting, and beyond! We look forward to hosting our educators from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore again next year!
