Dump Truck Safety Measures

Dump Truck Safety Measures

Dump truck drivers need to be alert at all times!

Reliable Contracting, the company with the big red trucks, is commonly recognized for its trucking services. We believe we employ the best drivers in the industry. Dump truck delivery is a huge part of our business, and we always emphasize our safety standards to all of our drivers. Here are some of the dump truck safety measures that our truck drivers use on a daily basis.

Truck Inspection

Before taking off on a dump truck delivery assignment, the truck driver needs to properly inspect the vehicle to ensure it is ready to drive. To begin, the driver needs to test the vehicle’s tire pressure. Every tire needs to be inspected to ensure one isn’t lagging and that both sides of the truck are even. Dump truck drivers also need to make sure there aren’t any issues with any of the trucks mechanisms. Examples of aspects which require the driver’s attention would be the vehicle’s suspension and all of the safety features.

Dumping Materials

A dump truck delivery can become unsafe if the grounds are not inspected ahead of time. Before a driver drops the materials, the driver needs to determine the levelness of the surface. By doing so, the driver knows what to expect during the unloading process. The ground also needs to be checked for any soft or wet areas that could make the job hazardous. It is necessary for the surroundings of the dump truck to be cleared of any other vehicles or machinery. By doing so, it also limits the possibility of unloading-related accidents.

Controlling Traffic

Most dump truck-related accidents could have been avoided if there were better precautionary measures in place. There needs to be a loud enough backup alarm that can easily be heard by pedestrians and other vehicles. There should also be noticeable lighting on the vehicle. Our dump trucks have both of these features to help ensure safety. The drivers also need to make sure the area is clear and that they are paying attention the whole time they are backing up the truck.
