All of the projects that we undertake at Reliable are important to us, therefore we like to give as many updates as we can so you know exactly what Reliable is doing for the community and how our processes work. One of our recent projects is a FedEx facility located in PG County. We added almost 2 million dollars worth of paving, curb and gutter installation, and site preparation work for this project to go forward. We worked with Jim Cooper Construction Company, Inc. to make this project work, starting in September of last year.
We asked our Grading Superintendent, Bryan Scrivener, some questions about the project and what it took to make it a success. “One of our first challenges was the native soil,” said Scrivener. According to him, the ground had to be entirely treated by a process called “soil cementing” because the ground was so bad. “Soil cementing is a process that mixes Portland cement into the top foot of soil in order to make it stable.” Once this process was done, Scrivener said that they had to keep a constant eye on the soil and the grading to make sure that nothing went awry in the process.
The crew worked tirelessly through the whole project and even had a difficult final day of paving due to the unfortunately cold and wet weather that has been plaguing Maryland for the past few weeks. Scrivener said, “None were as long as our last day of paving. . .[they] went to work with three crews, and after an extremely long day, finished less than an hour before the next weather event set in.” This kind of hard work is what we at Reliable Contracting pride ourselves on.
