How to Stay Healthy this Flu Season

Sneezing into a tissue will help you to avoid spreading the flu to others.

As the temperature changes and we move headlong into flu season, it’s a good idea to take a few precautionary steps to stay healthy. No one wants to catch the flu, and of course no one wants to be the person to give the flu to their coworkers! Especially when working outside in the elements, it’s important to know the signs of flu. Here are a few tips to help construction workers healthy this flu season.

Wash Hands Frequently

Have you been rubbing your nose with your hand or touching your face? Sometimes we do these things without even realizing it. It’s a good rule of thumb to wash your hands frequently during flu season. Remember to wash for at least 20 seconds and scrub under nails to get to hidden germs. If you are not in an area where you can wash your hands, using an antibacterial hand sanitizer will help reduce the number of germs you could potentially spread.

Avoid Making Contact with Those Who are Sick

If someone is noticeably sick, try to steer clear of their coughing and sneezing. When possible, avoid shaking hands with those who are sick. If someone is visibly sick, you can refrain from shaking their hand and politely let them know that you are trying to avoid catching the flu. Nobody wants to be the one to make someone else sick! If you are the one who is sick, try to stay home until you are no longer contagious.

Cover Coughs and Sneezes

When you feel a cough or a sneeze coming on, make sure to cover up. The average sneeze travels at 100 mph! That’s fast enough to reach someone standing near you in an instant. Try coughing and sneezing into your elbow to keep germs from traveling. If you cough or sneeze into your hands, be sure to wash them immediately!
